Goodbye Jelly Bean Journals: That’s a Wrap!

Today we are sharing the last post that will appear on Jelly Bean Journals. While it is challenging to say goodbye to this beloved community, the blog has served it’s purpose and we are moving on to our next chapters. We have loved sharing our parenting stories, wins, struggles and experiences just as much as we have loved hearing yours. You have brought us so much joy, laughter, peace, and comfort. We only hope we have offered a small piece of the same to you. Thank you to our family, friends, readers, partners, and guest bloggers, for coming on this journey with us. We will forever be grateful for your support, encouragement, and friendship. We take you with us, and you will always be in our hearts. Here are some words from each of us: Continue reading

A Birthday Letter Tradition: Big Brother N Turns 5!

Big  Brother N Turned 5 in October! Keeping with tradition, I wrote his annual birthday letter like I did at one yeartwo years, three years and four years. Enjoy this year’s letter!

Big Brother N!

Happy Birthday Baby! Boy do you love your birthday more and more every year. As a birthday fan myself, I sure love this! Your eyes light up when we talk about your party, your enthusiasm and excitement over your friends gathering is like no other, and the smile on your face is biggest when Continue reading

Little Brother N’s 1st Birthday Letter

If you have followed along with our blog since the beginning, you know writing Big Brother N a birthday letter each year is a special tradition I started when he turned 1. I plan to continue this tradition with Little Brother N, too. You also probably know my boys look quite a bit alike. Some pieces of their personality are very similar too, but in others they are so, so different. It was so fun reminiscing and reflecting on Little Brother N the last year and my continual evolution as a mother. Hope you enjoy and share in some of my sentiments! Continue reading

True Toddler Fashion: “TTF Part III”

I asked and you delivered! This is one of my favorite Jelly Bean Journals series and this time the True Toddler Fashion on display is from your tiny self-dressers! Brace yourself for a repeat venture of a project I shared with you back in 2015 and then, again, with round two just this past May. I had asked if any of you would be up for sharing your own renditions of True Toddler Fashion, and boy did you deliver! Let’s go with part three of “TTF” where we explore and celebrate the true, self-created style of our toddlers!

BLESSED.

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this picture before. It’s probably my all time favorite…ever. Of all the photos in my life (and you know there are millions between my mom and I), this moment is my all time favorite. It was taken the moment our boys met, and within a couple hours of Little Brother N’s birth. It is a moment I will forever be thankful and grateful I got to Continue reading

Talking Tragedy: How Do I Explain This?

by Drew Cotton

As we are all well aware, yesterday was the 16th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the United States. (Do you remember what the world was like pre-9/11? You might remember going to an airport and greeting passengers arriving from a flight directly at the gate, or going to a major-league baseball game without passing through a metal detector.) That day forever changed the American landscape and way of life. The last 16 years have seen a lot of anger, hate and fear. If you’re like me, you were a teenager that day, likely without a care in the world. Now we’re in our thirties, with children of our own. Continue reading

Can You Believe I Forgot These Things About Having a Baby?

Before Little Brother N was born, it’d been three years since I had a baby. It had actually been four years since I had a newborn. And boy, did those years go fast! There were so many things that happened in those four years; birthdays, doctor appointments, trips, and the thousands of small moments we experienced each day. Through those moments, I forgot Continue reading

Mud Room Art Area

Big Brother N could spend hours coloring, cutting, gluing, threading or doing some other type of art activity. Believe me, I’m a huge supporter of this, especially in the winter when his other favorite activity to request is TV. Over the years, we have received hand-me-down supplies from friends and my mom who was a preschool teacher for years as well as new materials as gifts. Our collection was really getting out of hand. Continue reading

“Bee” Day Party: Bumble Bee Birthday Party for Our 1-Year-Old

I love decorating for my kids’ birthday parties and I go all-out, especially for their first birthdays. I suspect that this is something that will change as my kiddos get older because they will call the shots for their special days and probably end my party decorating craze era.
