Despicable Me Birthday Party For Our 2-Year-Old

Kerstin and I went to a dinosaur themed toddler birthday party over the weekend. Our families joined us for “Little Handsome’s” second birthday celebration and everything was adorable from the dinosaur bone digging activity to the parting favors. Baby A was an active participant in selecting a present for Little Handsome, as well. He was insistent on gifting cupcakes which presented it’s own set of challenges while shopping the weekend before the gathering.

Cupcakes are a big deal to Baby A and out of all the toys we scoped, this was THE thing he wanted to give to his friend.¬†In honor of his wishes, we wrapped a complete “instant cupcake maker” set including a box of funfetti cake mix, frosting, baking papers, and sprinkles all selected by Baby A. We did throw in an extra little gift as I worried what Little Handsome would think about such a “present.” In the end, all toddlers seemed content! This was a good mommy learning moment for me and one that I will probably expand on in a future post.

In preparing to celebrate Little Handsome, I started to reflect on the cycle of birthdays that come and go all too fast for the children we love. Even though we still have about 4 months, I cannot believe that Baby A is going to turn 3 years old this year. It’s probably time to start calling him Toddler A. (Truthfully, it’s been time for a while now, but here I am holding on, as if I can stop time.)

I’ve also already started to contemplate upcoming birthday themes. Daddy D and I have a busy summer ahead of us, so it would probably be a good idea to start getting organized! Before moving forward, I’m up for a little trip down memory lane back to Baby A’s 2nd birthday celebration. He wanted a “Minion” birthday last summer. Pinterest ideas were endless and we had so much fun with his party that we were Gru, Lucy Wilde, and a Minion for Halloween this past year, as well! (You can see how we made our costumes by clicking¬†this link.) Here are some of the awesome ideas we put into action for his Despicable Me celebration:
