Today’s Mommy Juice Pick: Hot Pumpkin Tom and Jerry
Why I Picked This Mix: I’m still not sure why white girls get a black eye for liking fall and all things pumpkin. Nor do I fully understand what being basic means, but I will readily admit that my favorite season, since forever, is fall. In turn, this may be why I fit the stereotype…but, let me tell you why I don’t care.
I am an October baby and have been celebrating this time of year since I arrived here. I live in a place where aspen tree leaves turn ridiculous hues of yellow right before the snow flies. The scents of fall can change my mood in an instant and there is no comparison for the aromas of dried Russian Sage; cold garden dirt being turned up with carrot pulling; freshly baked homemade zucchini bread; or crisp, mountain fall air. I am obsessed with the comfort my sweaters, scarves, leggings, and boots provide. (If you’ve never owned a pair of real wool socks to wear inside your real cowgirl boots, I sincerely suggest you get a pair of each.) I crave the excitement generated over the upcoming holidays and I LOVE it when I get to swirl together a warm cup of frothy goodness and add a little mommy juice kick before settling into my latest read. (A colleague recently let me borrow It’s Okay to Laugh (Crying is Cool Too) by Nora McInerny, a memoir I’m loving.) Add to that warm drink the taste of pumpkin and you’ve got a thrilled lady right here.
This Hot Pumpkin Tom and Jerry recipe takes the traditional warm drink you are familiar with and gives it a little fall-time twist, prompting a big, fat, basic white girl, “yes, please!”
We took a lighthearted approach in creating our Mommy Juice series. Along with loving the term, we hope this group of posts will help fellow moms to sit back, unwind, and enjoy a cocktail. We have a deep love for mocktails, as well, so this series is sure to have something for everyone. After all, we absolutely love enjoying a favorite drink with a great friend. The Recipe / Ingredients:
- 4 ounces Boiling Water
- 2 tablespoons Tom and Jerry Mix
- 2 tablespoons Pumpkin Puree
- 1.5 ounces Spiced Rum
- 2 sprinkles of Pumpkin Pie Spice
- Bring your water to a boil.
- Grab your favorite mug.
- Put the Tom and Jerry Mix, Pumpkin Puree, and Spiced Rum in your mug.
- Pour the boiling water into your mug.
- Whip together all ingredients until well mixed and frothy.
- Sprinkle with Pumpkin Pie Spice and enjoy!
You can feel good about getting a few extra vitamins and health benefits from adding the pumpkin puree. This can help ease your guilt for indulging in Mommy Juice, or help you relax while you are trying to get over your basic white girl complex.
