Mommy Juice: Casper’s Bloody Mary Drinks

As promised, we have officially launched our third series, “Mommy Juice!” Our very first series, “Happy, Healthy & Loved. Stop the Mommy Wars!” was followed by “From the Mouths of Mommas” and both were a huge hit here on Jelly Bean Journals!

We took a lighthearted approach in creating our Mommy Juice series. Along with loving the term, we hope this group of posts will help fellow moms to sit back, unwind, and enjoy a cocktail. We have a deep love for mocktails, as well, so this series is sure to have something for everyone. After all, we absolutely love enjoying a favorite drink with a great friend. So, here’s to you, girl! Cheers!

Today’s Mommy Juice Pick: Bloody Mary

The Recipe: I enjoy a good Bloody Mary. After a quick visit to Liquor.com, I learned that this classic drink used to be called a Red Snapper until a gentleman named “Pete” started serving it in a Manhattan bar and spicing it up with garnishes like horseradish and pepper. According to the same article, all you need for a proper Bloody Mary is tomato juice, vodka, and spices. (They also included a pretty great recipe for your home mixing pleasure, so be sure to check it out!)

Why We Picked This Mix: Of course, bearing children has changed the frequency of which I enjoy this drink. Now that I’m a mom, I don’t like to waste precious time and I always want the most bang for my buck; especially when enjoying the rare treat of a great cocktail! So, I set out on a mission and asked my dear friend, Cheeky C, to join me on a self proclaimed Bloody Mary Tour through our town. Below you will find Bloody Mary ratings on various Casper, WY establishments.

I have placed the drinks in order from our most favorite concoctions to our least. But, the individual rankings should help you find the drink that best fits your taste.

Spice: 1 = A Little Zing

Flavor: 3 = Yeah, That’s Flavorful!

Garnish: 3 = Yeah, There They Are!

Alcohol Strength: 3 = Yeah, Baby!

Noteworthy: This drink won our top vote. Not meant to be too spicy, this drink was hand-mixed with Stoli Jalapeno Vodka and A1 for a unique taste. It also had the most “extras” in the glass for the best price and we loved every flavorful sip!

Bloody Mary #2 – $5.00

Spice: 3 = Yeah, Too Hot for My Mom!

Flavor: 2 = Now I Can Taste It

Garnish: 2 = Now I Can See Them

Alcohol Strength: 2 = Now We’re Talkin’

Noteworthy: This mix came in at a close second on our tour. We got to visit with the owners while enjoying this super spicy drink which was made to our taste by the friendly bartender! Everything for this cocktail was also hand-mixed. Nothing was premixed or pre-measured.

Bloody Mary #3 – $9.00

Spice: 1 = A Little Zing

Flavor: 1 = A Little Taste

Garnish: 2 = Now I Can See Them

Alcohol Strength: 2 = Now We’re Talkin’

Noteworthy: This was the most expensive of our drinks served by the most personable bartender. (We left wishing we were best friends with her!)  She made our cocktail with EFFEN Cucumber Vodka and a Bloody mix that is pre-made in house. We have to admit that we did LOVE the bacon salt on the rim of our glass!

Bloody Mary #4 – $7.00

Spice: 1 = A Little Zing

Flavor: 2 = Now I Can Taste It

Garnish: 3 = Yeah, There They Are!

Alcohol Strength: 2 = Now We’re Talkin’

Noteworthy: Of all our drinks, this glass had the most diversified garnishes. This is the only time we saw asparagus and lemon. So, if you like to “eat” your Bloody Mary, this is the pick for you. It had a nice flavor that complimented the calm atmosphere.

Bloody Mary #5 – $4.25

Spice: 0 = No Spice Here

Flavor: 1 = A Little Taste

Garnish: 2 = Now I Can See Them

Alcohol Strength: 1 = A Little BOOze

Noteworthy: If you want the most mellow experience in a Bloody Mary, you will love this one. The juice was fresh and the spice non-existent. Our drinks had a nice celery garnish with lots of ice.

A special thanks to Cheeky C for lending her taste buds and time. I’m so glad you agreed to take the tour with me!
