Our second little nugget is here and we could not be more thrilled! Little Brother N (yes, we picked another N name, which should cause great confusion on this blog) joined our family last week, surprising us two weeks early.
Weighing in at 6 lbs 3 ozs and at 19 1/2 inches long, he is much smaller than Big Brother N. At his birth Big Brother N weighed 9 lbs 2 ozs and was 22 1/2 inches long. Both Seano and I were concerned when we heard our second baby was nearly three pounds and 3 inches smaller than our first. We were reassured by the doctors and nurses in the room that Little Brother N is perfectly normal for a 38-week baby and N was just BIG, even for a 40+ week baby. But, I can tell you first hand, there is a significant difference in holding a 9 lb versus a 6 lb baby! Big Brother N seemed like a newborn for such a short time; I’m looking forward to having a baby longer, even if it is just a few weeks.
We are all doing well and soaking up as much baby loving as we can. Big Brother N is so in love. He constantly wants to hold or be near “his baby” and the other day I watched him bend down and whisper into his brother’s ear, “Baby N, do you like dinosaurs? I love them and will share mine with you.” Prior to Little Brother N’s birth, I worried how the choice to expand our family would affect Big Brother N. I’m quickly realizing, already, that this may be the best thing we ever do for him. Sure, there will be tantrums, fighting and trips to the ER along the way, but the way he looks at him tells me he’s been waiting for him for longer than we have.
We’re settling in nicely and look forward to sharing more details with you soon! But, for now, I’m off to enjoy my sweet new baby.
