Yay! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! One of my favorite memories from childhood is making various holiday cookies with my mom. I would be so excited to cut and decorate the cookies. If you ask my mom, she would probably tell you, I always puttered out about six cookies into decorating leaving her dozens to do on her own. But, I will never forget how excited I was to bake and decorate cookies and I will always cherish the memories of making cookies with my mom.
This was just one of the ways my mom made holidays so special. Among many other things, our house was always decorated from the floor to ceiling and there were parties and events that surrounded each holiday. This probably contributes to my desire to spend Valentine’s Day as a family. While all of the hype and symbolism around this special day makes it a great opportunity to show your partner or significant other how much you love them, it’s also a great day to tell and show your children, and the other people that bring your life joy, how much you care for them. As I talked about in my last post, I fully believe we should choose to show and express love everyday. But why not have a special day to call it out and make it our full intention? Seano, N and I are headed to the hot springs for the day. I’m so looking forward to some quality time with my two very favorite people!
Anyway, in keeping with tradition, N and I made some lovely Valentine’s Day cookies. Most of the time, he is all for baking with me but this go around he only wanted to decorate the ones he was planning on eating. Sound familiar, mom? We shared these cookies at a very special family anniversary party and, in addition to treats for his friends, N will be sharing these at his daycare’s Valentine’s Day party.
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! May you be shown at least as much love as you give. X,O Kerstin
