As I shared in “Loving Life with a Toddler: The Things I Most Appreciate Today” I was extremely surprised by how deeply I loved being the mom of a toddler. I must say that I have a completely different relationship with our little girl, Baby B, than with our little boy, Kiddo A, but I’m just as fond of her toddler stage. She regularly leaves me missing the two-year-old version of the boy who made me a mom and I delight in watching her explore, develop, and acquire knowledge.
Baby B is quick to Continue reading
It’s official. I’m that mom…the helicopter mom. I just spent the holiday season hovering over my 4-year-old hounding him about Continue reading
All the Single Working Mommies:
I see you and I couldn’t possibly pretend to fully understand your reality. I will tell you that when my husband is away at a work conference, I can barely hack it. From the moment he leaves I start a mental countdown to the time when my support will return. Continue reading
I have been crazy, stupid excited over the arrival of Little Brother N. Now that he’s here safe and sound, I’m thrilled to share the way we celebrated him, and honored Kerstin’s second pregnancy, over the summer.
It happened. I finally had to pick. I had to make that age old parenting choice between my emotional comfort and Kiddo A’s next big thing.
I am at the crossroads of a new preschool and our familiar early childhood learning center; staring down the road of my little boy’s destiny. Do I cheer as he spreads his wings, or protectively insist that he stay in his safe cocoon one more year?
The rumors you have heard are true…I don’t know a damn thing about you. You see, this mama played just about every other organized sport out there, including collegiate volleyball. But, you? Soccer? No, not so much. Look, it’s nothing personal, it’s just the truth. Yet here we are, forced to be friends all because Kiddo A has decided to give you a try.
I have to admit, when I hit “submit” to register my little guy for your team I felt Continue reading
I truly agree with the sentiment, “It takes a village to raise a child.” While Seano and I are the primary caregivers, we have so much love and support surrounding us and participating in N’s rearing. I say “thank you” on a regular basis, but I’m not sure if these people really know how grateful we are. So, I wrote an open letter to my village. (I’m sure I did not cover every single person that love and support us in this note, but you’ll get the gist.)
Sweet, loving, understanding village of mine, thank you for all that you consciously and unconsciously do to make our life so blessed. You are the reason I can claim any form of sanity at any time. Continue reading
Before school let out for summer, Daddy D agreed to bring Leo the Gerbil home from Kiddo A’s class. Kiddo A and his buddies have loved caring for this furry critter. We also think Leo has adapted to his new surroundings nicely. Leo recently asked if he could let the other children from Mrs. Hyde’s class know how he is doing. Naturally, I obliged, and have turned the keyboard over to our temporary pet gerbil so that he can give his own update…
I know it can be intimidating but I promise you, there are Pinterest pins that are absolutely worth a try. The six projects I’m sharing today are tried and true. That’s right, your’s truly has been able to celebrate Pinterest wins! I am a real person with a normal life and I have successfully executed Continue reading
Well, friends, it’s official. We have put out our very first vlog. You will notice that Chelse is pregnant in this project and that is because this little clip was filmed a year ago! It has taken some courage, processing, and plenty of editing time to prepare this video. Writing and posting pictures is one thing, but the act of looking at and listening to ourselves has pushed our boundaries. We weren’t even sure that this vlog would ever make it to you, but we decided to practice what we preach and live in the moment. Hey, there’s no place to go but up from here! (This is where we ask for your love and acceptance of our amateur vlogging skills!) If nothing else, we hope you can share in our friendship and giggle a little with us.
Picking the subject of our first vlog was much easier than pressing the “share with everybody” button. We struggled through the process of potty training Kiddo A and N around the same time and our stories are intertwined. We decided to tell those tales together and share some ideas for other parents working on potty training. We didn’t want to be another of those self proclaimed “potty training miracle” videos, so we intentionally shared the things we each tried in a conversation style clip. We hope that providing a little encouragement and maybe a new idea or two with others working to get their toddler to do their business without soiled undies will be just the ticket. Enjoy and be sure to share your tips and tricks with others in the comments.
