My Thanks for a Captured Authentic Moment

To this day, this picture is one of my favs. Beautiful L posted it on social media for our group of friends four years ago and Kerstin recently shared it, again, as one of her favorites.

This photo of friends is posed, but it’s not formal or professional. This is a true image. It captured a group of people living in an authentic moment. Continue reading

Mommy Juice: Hot Pumpkin Tom and Jerry

Today’s Mommy Juice Pick: Hot Pumpkin Tom and Jerry

Why I Picked This Mix: I’m still not sure why white girls get a black eye for liking fall and all things pumpkin. Nor do I fully understand what being basic means, but I will readily admit that my favorite season, since forever, is fall. In turn, this may be why I fit the stereotype…but, let me tell you why I don’t care. Continue reading

I Talked to Cheeky C about Coping with Child Suicide During the Holidays

Ian was 18 when he died by suicide. Cheeky C is one of my closest friends and Ian’s mom. I remember receiving her call four years ago that he was gone; and I’ve not witnessed a girlfriend survive a more devastating loss. I have come to notice that the winter holidays seem to be the worst for Cheeky C. Although she is a warrior and a survivor, this season hits her hard. My spunky, outspoken, and cheeky pal becomes withdrawn and more downcast. The truth is, I will never have my original Cheeky C back. Losing her son was a traumatic turning point and I know she is changed forever, but this time of year seems to be especially heart-rending.

Russian Sage Bundle for Rustic Fall or Winter Decorating

Each autumn we trim our Russian Sage, or Perovskia Atriplicifolia, nearly to the ground. We do this to keep our plants healthy and thriving. Let me tell you, it works like a charm and these beauties bloom a gorgeous purple all through the following summer. Their aroma reminds me of hearty sage and they are loved by bumble bees. On hot afternoons our fence sounds like a buzzing electric line because of the busy pollinators working from one tiny flower to the next. Continue reading

Turn Around Blessings: What a Great Problem to Have!

It’s the week of Thanksgiving and like each year, I’m reflecting on the things I’m truly thankful for. I’m not one who believes a certain time of year or holiday should be the only moment to count blessings Continue reading

Kerstin’s 2014 Fall Recap

Our family had a busy and wonderful fall. (Check out past recaps here and here.) I’ve been thinking and processing the term “busy” lately. I have finally been able to accept that life is just going to be busy. For a long time, I seemed to say things like, “when things slow down” or “when things get back to normal.”  Well, for us, normal is busy. We are the kind of family that relishes togetherness and lives by experience. So, I’m embracing it instead of fighting it. And, I love fall in Wyoming so that makes being busy even easier to embrace! I am always up for taking advantage of any nice weather the season still has left in it. This year, we were blessed with many beautiful fall days.  With N’s birthday and the start of the holidays, fall also brings a season of togetherness for our families which is something I always enjoy! Anyway, on to our Fall 2014 Recap.
