When we got our hands on the birth story of a very special little lady as seen through the eyes of her father, we couldn’t put it down. We don’t often have the opportunity to experience the challenges of bringing babies into this world through the perspective of their dads. Michael Moline, a college instructor, loving husband and devoted father, has graciously agreed to let us launch a series using his writing on this very topic. He titled his memoir “Malia Mei: A Courageous Birth” and we will be sharing it in multiple parts on a bi-weekly basis right here on the blog. We couldn’t be more honored that he is allowing us to share his beautiful work and we think you will love it as much as we do. Please include your questions and thoughts in the comments and we will make sure Michael has the opportunity to address them.

I have been crazy, stupid excited over the arrival of Little Brother N. Now that he’s here safe and sound, I’m thrilled to share the way we celebrated him, and honored Kerstin’s second pregnancy, over the summer.
My cherished circle of people have taken to becoming mommies. From first time pregnancies to adoptions and back over to growing families, I am surrounded by the blessing of children joining us earthside. After we welcomed Baby B into our lives, I worked through a flood of postpartum emotions. This birth was especially joyful and healing for me because I delivered our baby at home after a traumatizing c-section experience. Different feelings washed over me after her delivery and I found myself in deep appreciation and celebration over the way our daughter entered the world. Today I’m sharing the letter I wrote to my husband in expression of my gratitude to him for Continue reading

My second baby’s “guess date” is drawing near and anticipation of our healthy VBAC delivery is growing! I am a true believer that birth isn’t just one day in someone’s life. It is so much more. I feel my first birth experience was laden with bullying, misinformation, and little respect for me, my body, my choices, my requests, or my baby. Because of this, I have given countless hours and many sleepless nights to planning my next birth. Continue reading
The first time I had a baby I lied to you. When you asked me if I needed anything, my smile was fake and my voice cracked as I responded, “No thanks! I’m doing great!” When I finally let you visit it took every ounce of strength to open my front door and let you in.
Remember those days and days of hiding out with my infant? Continue reading
Last April, in honor of National Cesarean Awareness Month, I shared the second part of my birth story, The Start of a Movement: Baby A’s Birth Story Part II. Disclosing my intimate journey didn’t come about because of a new found comfort level; or even because I could write or read my own story without becoming overwhelmed with emotion. Instead, I shared in the hope of Continue reading
